What happened to 3G? Will it affect me?

The UK's networks have switched 3G off, so phones now use 4G and 5G.

UK networks have switched off their 3G networks to make room for faster 4G and 5G.

For Simp customers there's nothing to do. Simp needs a phone with eSIM, and every eSIM phone does 4G. Calls go over 4G calling (see What is 4G calling?).

Older phones that only do 3G can't use Simp. Mobile broadband dongles and routers aren't supported either: Simp is for phones.

In a spot where your phone used to show 3G, you'll now see 4G, 5G or no signal at all.
